Chris Cornell Filling In For Robert Plant On Led Zeppelin Tour? That's News To Him

'I have not been approached to fill in for Robert Plant on the Zeppelin tour, but that isn't to say I won't be,' singer says.

Here's a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don't do it, we're going out with this kid [Myles Kennedy].' "</P><P>"And he can sing the sh-- out of Zeppelin," Snider added. "They're going to hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, 'OK,' and step in."</P><P>In a recent interview, Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought to take over for Plant. "We are trying out a couple of singers," he said. "We want to do it. It's sounding great, and we want to get on and get out there."</P><P>But Jones insists that he, Page and Bonham aren't interested in finding a Plant clone. "It's got to be right," he said. "There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard."</P><P>Of course, even if Zeppelin were to approach him, Cornell might be too busy to take over vocals for the band. His upcoming <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/timbaland/artist.jhtml">Timbaland</a>Timbaland-produced solo LP, <a href="/news/articles/1596730/chris-cornell-debuts-timbaland-produced-track-on-tv-show.jhtml"><i>Scream,</i></a> will be released within the next few months. Cornell told MTV News last month that some of his fans might consider <i>Scream</i> something of a departure, but he doesn't see it that way.</P><P>"It makes me happy that there's this perception that I have a group of fans that I'm now sort of throwing a curve at and what their reaction will be," he said. "But I've been in this situation so many times already. When I put out [1999's] <i>Euphoria Morning,</i> my main goal was to create an album that sounded like nothing I'd done in Soundgarden, and I did that. I also had that with Temple of the Dog, where I showed up with songs that weren't necessarily riff-based. And then, of course, the pairing of me and members of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rage_against_the_machine/artist.jhtml">Rage Against the Machine</a>Rage Against the Machine had everyone sort of speculating about what that would sound like.</P><P>"It feels like I've done this so many times that when it's presented to me as being a departure, I feel that's a misconception," he added. "I feel like that's my theme at this point."</p>

Justin Bieber Gets His Own Graduation On 'Ellen DeGeneres Show'

'Breaking Dawn' Best Kiss Nominee 'A Prelude To Sex'

'Breaking Dawn' producer Wyck Godfrey calls nominees Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson a shoo-in — except for one sultry couple.
By Kara Warner

With just a few more days left to cast your votes for this Sunday's 2012 MTV Movie Awards, the competition is heating up. And while there are hotly contested races in nearly every category, Best Kiss might be the one to watch this year.

The front-runners are Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, not only because they're fan favorites but because they've taken home the award for three consecutive years. MTV News recently caught up with "Twilight" producer extraordinaire Wyck Godfrey, who assessed the competition and concluded that Stewart and Pattinson are likely to bag their fourth award — save for one heated smooch between Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in "The Vow."

"That might be tough, Channing is having quite a year," Godfrey said diplomatically, before explaining why the kiss in "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" really is this year's best.

"The Best Kiss is when it's really about [a] prelude to sex," Godfrey admitted with a smile. "Sometimes that takes it up a notch and that could be what might get us over the hump.

"I think the build-up for four ['Twilight'] movies, and to watch these two finally have sex is such that when that happens in 'Breaking Dawn,' the audience is fully with it, wants to see every frame of footage," the producer explained of that heated moment between Edward and Bella after their "I dos." "I think that kiss is special because we know what it's leading to."

Aside from this year's nominated kiss, Godfrey said the previously nominated smooch between Bella and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) in "Eclipse" ranks among his favorites.

"I think the fun one was in 'Eclipse' when Taylor and Kristen kiss for the first time in the movies, and I think that was something for fans and [the filmmakers] that was really enjoyable because Rob and Kristen were old hat by then."

Ke$ha Gives Flaming Lips Frontman His First-Ever Toe Tattoo

Wayne Coyne talks about what happens when you work with 'freaks' like Ke$ha on The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends.
By James Montgomery

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/flaming_lips/artist.jhtml">Flaming Lips</a> mastermind Wayne Coyne took away more than just <a href="http://pitchfork.com/news/46404-flaming-lips-blood-vinyl-10-copies-2500-features-keha-erykah-badu-nick-cave-chris-martin-blood/" target="_blank">a vial of blood</a> when he traveled to Nashville to record with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a>. (Though, really, you'd think that would be enough.) He also left with his first-ever tattoo ... not to mention a newfound respect for the wild-child pop star.</P><P>"Most of the time, if someone's willing to work with me, they're going to be a freak. And Ke$ha ... I sort of thought that she would be a freak, I'd heard about her and we'd tried to get a hold of her earlier," Coyne told MTV News backstage at the <a href="/news/articles/1685474/dave-matthews-band-hangout-fest.jhtml">Hangout Fest</a> in Gulf Shores, Alabama. "We showed up at her house, and she has a tattoo gun that she gives everyone a tattoo with, so within 20 minutes of being at her house, I had a tattoo on my toe; it's the only tattoo I've ever had.</P><P>"We were set to do this one song that I had prepared, and we went into the studio that night, and stayed there until about 2 in the morning, and did four songs, just making stuff up," he continued. "And the next day [we] worked for another couple hours. She's funny, she's gracious, she's imaginative, she's creative and she's <i>a lot</i> of fun to be around."</P><P>The result of that collaboration (a song called "2012") shows up on the Lips' special Record Store Day double-LP, <i>The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends,</i> a thoroughly out-there collection of songs and sound-collages that &#8212; as the title implies &#8212; the band recorded with the likes of Bon Iver, Nick Cave, Neon Indian, Yoko Ono and, uh, Coldplay's Chris Martin ... to name just a few. But will fans get to hear even <i>more</i> of the Flaming Lips/Ke$ha team-up? Well, Coyne certainly hopes so.</P><P>"We really loved making this music together &#8212; I think I've probably done six or seven songs with her &#8212; and I know a lot of her fans like ['2012'], but I don't know if we'll put more songs out there," he said. "She has other agendas besides doing music with Wayne, you know, but I hope so, because I think it's really great, crazy, <i>unexpected</i> music. And she, to her credit, loves what we do. She wants it to be whatever. She has no limits of what she wants it to be."</P><P>And don't think the <i>Heady Fwends</i> sessions will be the last time Coyne and Ke$ha share time (or blood) in the studio. If anything, the Lips' recent output of, uh, <i>non-traditional</i> releases &#8212; songs encased in gummy skulls and fetuses, 24-hour noise-jam freakouts that <a href="http://flaminglipstwentyfourhoursong.com/" target="_blank">play for all eternity</a>, limited-edition vinyl filled with actual blood, etc &#8212; suggests Coyne and Co. are just getting started ... and they're going to get even weirder before they're finished.</P><P>"That's been the beautiful thing about all of these weird collaborations and projects; you work with <i>freaks.</i> Even working with someone like Chris Martin, he's very open to, like, 'Let's do stuff!' That's the great surprise about it," Coyne said. "I don't think people are surprised when we work with a group like Lightning Bolt or Neon Indian &#8212; people think of us as like-minded &#8212; but the surprising thing with the Chris Martins or the Ke$has, they're like us too, they just don' play music that sounds like that all the time."</p>

A$AP Rocky Enlists Jim Jones, Raekwon For A$AP Mob Album

Rocky was tight-lipped on 'RapFix Live,' but reveals collabos with Kendrick Lamar, hip-hop newcomers the Flatbush Zombies.

There will be no summer vacation for A$AP Rocky; the Harlem rapper is fast at work on two albums. First he will drop a group album with his A$AP Mob collective and then follow up with his solo debut Long.Live.A$AP. Though he has a lot on his plate, Rock will have a little bit of help.

"We got Nast on there, we got Ferg on there, we got Twelvyy on there, we got me on there," Rocky jokingly responded after some prodding by "RapFix Live" host Sway Calloway about the guest features on the A$AP Mob LP.

It's a given that all the rapping members of the Mob would appear on the group album, so Rock reluctantly gave more detail. "We got the Flatbush Zombies on there, we got Jim Jones on there, we got Raekwon on there," he said.

Both Jim Jones and Raekwon are industry vets, while the Flatbush Zombies are newcomers who emerged last year on the strength of their standout single "Thug Waffle." The video has notched almost a half million views on YouTube since being released in January.

Rocky was more guarded when it came to dropping any feature info regarding Long.Live.A$AP. "I can't really get into that right now. You tried to catch me right now," he told Sway laughing.

The "Goldie" MC passed the mic to A$AP Yams, who was sitting beside him on the couch. "I'ma let Yams spill the beans, but don't give too much away," he warned his buddy.

After a long pause Yams revealed a single name: "Kendrick Lamar," he said, name-dropping Rocky's Club Paradise tourmate.

Lindsay Lohan Chased for $40k Tanning Bill

After years of ignoring an extremely large tab, Lindsay Lohan is now being pursued by a tanning company in Nevada for her debt.

According to a report put out by TMZ on Tuesday (May 29), the 25-year-old actress is being chased by Tanning Vegas' owner Lorit Simon for a whopping $41,031 bill.

The "Herbie: Fully Loaded" star apparently used the company for her bronzing purposes between 2007 and 2009 but never coughed up the funds to pay the bill. She received a court order to pay the bill more than nine months ago and still has not cooperated.

Hoping to get her money back for her services, Simon is now pushing to get the matter moved to California.

'Men In Black' Shoot Down 'Avengers' At Holiday Weekend Box Office

'Avengers' finally forced to #2 after nearly a month at the top.
By Ryan J. Downey

It wasn't Loki, an army of otherworldly Chitauri nor any other super-villain that finally defeated Captain America and his pals. A satiric adaptation of a 1970s soap opera and a big-budget action flick based on a board game tried and failed. Ultimately, it was another franchise with comic book roots that ended the nearly month-long reign of "The Avengers" at the top of the box office, as "Men in Black 3" became the #1 movie in America with an estimated $70 million debut over the four-day Memorial Day weekend.

The third entry in the Will Smith/ Tommy Lee Jones franchise, based on a short-lived comic series from the early 1990s, took in another $133.2 million overseas, giving it a worldwide total of $203.2 million. Box-office prognosticators had predicted a somewhat stronger opening for the 3-D film, which carried a reported production budget near $250 million. Enthusiasm and nostalgia for the 1997 original, about a pair of criminal-alien-busting special agents, remains high. But the 2002 sequel was poorly received by critics, who were a bit kinder to "MIB 3," which added Josh Brolin as a younger version of Jones' character in time-travel scenes. The first "Men in Black" made $589 million around the world. Its follow-up trailed behind with $442 million. The opening weekend for "MIB 3" wasn't far off from "MIB 2."

Will Smith, top-billed in hits like "Hancock" and "I Am Legend," broke a four-year hiatus from the screen with "Men in Black 3." The film received a 67 percent score on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.

"Chernobyl Diaries" was the only other widely released new film over the holiday weekend. The low-budget horror tale was #6 with just $9.3 million. Critics were not kind — the film had a 26 percent score at Rotten Tomatoes — and audiences who saw the movie assigned it a D-plus CinemaScore.

"Men in Black 3" was able to do what "Dark Shadows" and "Battleship" failed to do in recent weeks by knocking "The Avengers" to #2, though Marvel's superhero team-up flick still generated gigantic numbers considering how long it's been in theaters. "The Avengers" earned another $46.9 million over the four-day weekend (and crossed the $500 million mark on Saturday, making it the fastest movie to ever do so) for a total of $523.6 million. Not adjusted for inflation, "The Avengers" is now the fourth-biggest movie of all time, behind "Avatar," "Titanic" and the final entry in the "Harry Potter" movie franchise.

"Battleship" sunk even further at the box office, dropping 57 percent to #3 after a less-than-impressive debut last weekend. The blend of high-seas action and sci-fi made $13.8 million over the holiday for a domestic total of $47.3 million. "Battleship" has made $232.7 million overseas but has earned even less than Taylor Kitsch's last film, notorious big-budget bomb "John Carter," over the same amount of time in theaters. "The Dictator" was #4 during its second weekend with $11.8 million for a $43.6 million total.

"Dark Shadows" was #5 with $9.4 million for a total of $64.9 million. The latest Johnny Depp/ Tim Burton collaboration won't make anywhere near the box-office coin of films like "Alice in Wonderland," though it did manage to pass "Sweeney Todd" over the weekend. The movie carried a reported production budget of $150 million.

In the limited-release world, "Moonrise Kingdom" collected $669,000 from just four theaters over four days. That estimate puts it ahead of "Dreamgirls" with the highest per screen average debut of any live action film. That number is also higher than filmmaker Wes Anderson's previous best, "The Royal Tenenbaums." Also in four theaters over the weekend: "The Intouchables," a French film that has already made $340 million worldwide, grossed $137,438 through Monday.

One of the stars of "The Avengers," Chris Hemsworth (Thor), will appear in theaters again this weekend as one of the title characters in "Snow White and the Huntsman." The movie co-stars Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron as the evil queen. It was directed by newcomer Rupert Sanders.

Phillip Phillips Postpones Important Kidney Operation Again

After enduring months of excruciating pain to stay in the competition for season 11 of "American Idol", it looks like Phillip Philips will once again have to delay an extremely important kidney surgery.

Due to massive stones in his right kidney the 21-year-old was set to go under the knife on Wednesday (May 29), but due to a sinus infection that caused him to have a high temperature doctors advised that he delay.

Phillips' girlfriend Hannah Blackwell took to her Twitter page yesterday to confirm the news writing, "Phillip?s surgery is not tomorrow, He will be fine when it is scheduled and is excited for tour. Thanks for your concern and respect.? Today (May 29) the rock star also expressed his feelings via his social media page tweeting, "Good days, bad days...you're gonna have them."

Throughout the three month competition the singer/songwriter's father Phillip Phillips Sr. told People magazine that he endured multiple surgeries explaining, "Eight operations since we started ?American Idol? ? He?s hitting 50 percent, but he?s still up there swinging away.?

Once Phillip re-schedules the procedure the recovery will last "probably two to four weeks" according to his father and the proud dad can't wait to see him then saying, "He?s healthy, he?s good. His kidneys are good. I can?t wait for America and the whole world to see him, because he?s a big cut-up. He?s going to have some fun.?

Regardless of the recovery time, the southern singer says nothing will keep him from the "Idol" top 10 tour in July gushing, ?I?m not going to be missing anything. I?ll be 100 percent by then, so I?m excited.?

Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball Kicks Off Amid Protests

Seoul, South Korea, set list heavy on new material, but Gaga's biggest hits come out to play.
By John Mitchell

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> kicked off her hotly awaited <i>Born This Way</i> Ball at Seoul, South Korea's Olympic Stadium on Friday (April 27) in front of 45,000 fans, and despite <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17867102" target="_blank">protests</a> from Christian groups saying Mother Monster was "obscene" and could "taint" young people with her performance, the concert appears to have gone on without incident.</P><P>Intrepid Twitter fans are already showing off pictures and video of the <i>BTW</i> Ball's enormous Gothic castle backdrop and myriad costume changes, making it clear that Gaga has outdone even her own Monster Ball in terms of spectacle.</P><P>While we wait for reviews to trickle in from halfway around the world, one thing is certain: No minors were corrupted at the show. Earlier this month, the Korea Media Rating Board decided to <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2012/04/02/lady-gaga-unfazed-by-south-korean-concert-age-restrictions/">elevate the age rating</a> for the concert from 12 to 18, prohibiting minors from seeing the concert. When the board notified Gaga's tour promotion company and a sponsor of the change in age restrictions, it did not offer a reason why the show &#8212; which at the time was still in rehearsals and had not been reviewed publicly &#8212; was considered unsuitable for children under 18.</P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:717952/cp~vid%3D717952%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A717952" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER></P><P>The likely catalyst for the board's decision came more into focus as the concert neared and protests from a group of conservative Christians calling itself the Alliance for Sound Culture in Sexuality ramped up. The group <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31749_162-57419977-10391698/lady-gagas-born-this-way-ball-met-by-protests-in-south-korea/" target="_blank">covered Seoul with posters</a> accusing Gaga of "spreading unhealthy sexual culture" through "lewd lyrics and performances."</P><P>The superstar and her fans, however, were undeterred. Though she <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/186886867118080000" target="_blank">tweeted</a> her hopes that the Korea Media Rating Board would reverse its decision (it didn't), she continued on as planned. Many fans reportedly arrived at the show wearing versions of Gaga's most well-known flamboyant costumes, and there have been no reports of disturbances at the concert.</P><P>Before the show, Gaga <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/195815732494348288" target="_blank">tweeted</a>, "I can you hear you Korea. I'm shaking."</P><P>Gaga's performance was heavy on material from her <i>Born this Way</i> album, though her biggest hits, including "Bad Romance," Poker Face" and "Just Dance," were represented.</P><P>Lady Gaga's <i>Born This Way</i> Ball set list:</P><P><b>&#187;</b> "Highway Unicorn" <br> <b>&#187;</b> "Government Hooker"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Born This Way"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Bloody Mary"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Bad Romance"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Fashion of His Love"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "The Queen"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Just Dance"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Love Game"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Telephone"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Just Dance"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Heavy Metal Lover"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Bad Kids"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Hair"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Yo&#252; and I"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Electric Chapel"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Americano"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Poker Face"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Schei&#223;e"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "The Edge of Glory"<br> <b>&#187;</b> "Marry the Night"</P><P><i>Did you see Lady Gaga's </i>Born This Way<i> Ball? Lady Gaga Responds To Islamic Threats Over Indonesia Show

Gaga's tour promoters are negotiating with government officials for Jakarta concert to go forward despite threats from extremist groups.
By John Mitchell

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml"> Lady Gaga</a> has responded to the increasingly volatile situation surrounding her "Born This Way" concert in Indonesia, saying on Twitter that she has been asked by authorities to censor her show and has received threats of violence from Islamic hardliners should it go on as planned.</P><P><a href="/news/articles/1685092/lady-gaga-cancels-show-indonesia.jhtml">Earlier reports indicated</a> that Gaga's planned June 3 concert at Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Stadium had been canceled after Indonesian national police refused to issue a permit, citing objections from Islamic groups who worried that Gaga's performance would corrupt the nation's youth. However, Gaga's tour promoters are currently negotiating with government officials and police for the concert to go forward as planned.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Will Bring a 'Personal' Touch To 'Born This Way' Tour" id="vid:717952" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"The Jakarta situation is 2-fold: Indonesian authorities demand I censor the show &amp; religious extremist separately, are threatening violence," Gaga <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/204810085438984192">tweeted</a> Tuesday (May 22). "If the show does go on as scheduled, I will perform the BTWBall alone."</P><P>Fifty thousand tickets for the show have been sold.</P><P>While Indonesia is a secular state governed as a multi-party representative democratic republic, it has the world's largest population of Muslims, most of whom practice a moderate form of the religion. However, there are also more extremist fringe groups that have in recent years become increasingly vocal, particularly regarding Western entertainers visiting the country. Beyonc &#233;, for example, was <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298736,00.html" target="_blank">permitted to perform</a> in Indonesia &#8212; the world's fourth most populous nation &#8212; on the condition she agreed to dress more conservatively.</P><P>But these groups' problems with Gaga extend beyond her wardrobe. The country's top Islamic body, the National Ulema Council (MUI), has said it objects to the concert not only because of her provocative costumes, but because it considers her lyrics to be "blasphemous," according to the <a href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5ic8EgZisBRUuvNPTU_HDXrzTiMtA?docId=CNG.c8ee78b51ef9bf3593b67500bd8a8817.3d1"><i>AFP</i></a>.</P><P>"Lady Gaga is considered an icon for liberal culture and Indonesia's freedom is not without limits," MUI official Asrorun Niam told <i>AFP</i>. "There are restrictions related to norms, morals and religion."</P><P>A more militant group, the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), said it would "create havoc" if the pop star's performance went ahead, calling her the "devil's messenger." The <a href="http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/home/hard-line-fpi-buys-150-tickets-to-stop-lady-gaga-concert/519194" target="_blank"><i>Jakarta Globe</i></a> reports the FPI have purchased 150 tickets to the concert, promising to enter the venue and stop the concert.</P><P>A spokesperson for FPI stressed that the group would not attack the audience, as their only target was Gaga and her crew. The group posted to its Facebook page a photo of a member wearing a turban and sunglasses to conceal his face, holding a ticket to the show with a caption reading, "We have gotten Lady Gaga tickets, not to watch but for us to enter. Whatever will be will be, we're ready for the risk."</P><P>"Hopefully, the concert is canceled," the FPI has said. The group previously threatened to intercept Gaga in transit from the airport if she even enters Indonesia.</P><P>Despite the threats, lawyers representing Gaga's tour production company reportedly met with Jakarta police today to negotiate the conditions necessary for the concert to go on as scheduled. A Jakarta police spokesman has said that for the concert to go ahead, concert promoters need to secure permits from the tourism ministry and the concert venue owner, in addition to ensuring Gaga "is dressed appropriately and does not violate cultural norms in this country."</P><P>Gaga also <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/21/showbiz/gaga-manila/index.html" target="_blank">encountered protests</a> in the Philippines from conservative Christian groups ahead of her concerts in Manila, but seemed in good spirits despite the controversy, <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga/status/204844867359211520" target="_blank">tweeting</a>, "And don't worry, if I get thrown in jail in Manila, Beyonce will just bail me out. Sold out night 2 in the Philippines. I love it here!"</p>

<P>Sunday night's (May 20) <i>Billboard</i> Music Awards were a bittersweet affair, balancing the promise of decades of entertainment from a new generation of record-smashing young artists like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift with fond memories of a number of recently departed musical icons.</P><P>In a three-hour show heavy on performances, chart staples <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lmfao/artist.jhtml">LMFAO</a> helped kicked the show off with a typically hyped performance of their inescapable party anthems that featured a cabbage-patching teddy bear and zebra and more animal prints than a Flintstones family reunion.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="2012 Billboard Awards Highlights" id="id:1685461" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> was the night's first winner, taking the Top Social Artist award for his huge online presence. The singer swaggered up to the stage and, in an uncharacteristically emotional moment, said, "I just want to say how much of a blessing it's been ... the past three or four years, growing up in front of everybody. ... I want to thank all my fans, because the Internet is where I got my start, and all my fans have helped me get to this position."</P><P>Co-host Julie Bowen took a moment out of the program early on to pay tribute to late Bee Gees member <a href="/news/articles/1685459/robin-gibb-bee-gees-charts.jhtml">Robin Gibb</a>, who died earlier in the day Sunday after a long battle with cancer. The night also featured a <a href="/news/articles/1685464/whitney-houston-adam-yauch-billboard-music-awards.jhtml">touching tribute</a> to recently passed disco queen <a href="/news/articles/1685299/donna-summer-dead.jhtml">Donna Summer</a> by Natasha Bedingfield and a segment devoted to <a href="/news/articles/1679029/whitney-houston-dead.jhtml">music legend Whitney Houston</a> with a medley of her indelible hits performed by John Legend and Jordin Sparks.</P><P>Daughter Bobbi Kristina accepted the <i>Billboard</i> Millennium Award on behalf of her late mother. "I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all," she said. "Not just when it was good, but when it was bad too ... thank you <I>so</I> much for showing that much love, because she deserved it."</P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry</a> was handed the Spotlight Award for tying the record set by Michael Jackson of five #1 hits from the same album, for her handful of smashes from <I>Teenage Dream.</I> Dressed in a floor-length sparkling silver gown, her hair a muted dark purple, Perry said she was "incredibly honored" to be in the same category as someone like Jackson.</P><P>"Most of all, of course, I always say that the people have the power, so I want to say thank you to the glittering, gorgeous community of fans out there," she added to wild applause, while finding a spare few seconds to plug her upcoming <a href="/news/articles/1685370/katy-perry-part-of-me-movie-poster.jhtml">3-D concert film, "Part of Me."</a> Oh, and she said she couldn't wait to do shots later that night with her 91-year-old granny, who was in the audience.</P><P>The ladies had a great night, as <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/swift__taylor/artist.jhtml">Taylor Swift</a> was honored with the <i>Billboard</i> Woman of the Year award, acknowledging her stadium full of impressive credits, including a place as the only woman in music history to score three #1 albums in a row, each of which has sold more than 5 million copies. Swift, 22, dressed in a flowing red evening gown and ever gracious, thanked her legions of fans, saying, "I just love you so much, I'm just so humbled and honored by this."</P><P>As Miley Cyrus noted, you're only new to the game once, so it was fitting that red-hot rapper <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/wiz_khalifa/artist.jhtml">Wiz Khalifa</a> best the competition for the Top New Artist trophy. "I'm up here shakin', man," the rapper admitted as he thanked his whole crew and label family, as well as his "beautiful fianc&#233;e," <a href="/news/articles/1680245/wiz-khalifa-amber-rose-engaged.jhtml">Amber Rose</a>. "She's my world and she puts up with my crazy butt, too," he smiled, as Rose beamed from her seat in the audience.</P><P>Some other men got a bit of attention as well, with an absent Lil Wayne beating out Chris Brown, Drake, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber for Male Artist of the Year.</P><P>Hot 100 Song of the Year was a tight race featuring smashes from Adele, Perry, Maroon 5 and Pitbull. But could it have gone to anyone but LMFAO for "Party Rock Anthem"? With six weeks atop the Hot 100, the uncle/nephew duo scored the third longest-running top 10 hit of all time. "This is a dream come true," said singer Redfoo. A short time later, Khalifa shouted out the <a href="/news/articles/1684552/adam-yauch-mca-remember-tribute-beastie-boys-dead.jhtml">Beastie Boys' MCA</a> before LMFAO were up on the stage again for the Top Duo or Group prize.</P><P>Brown got his chance a bit later with a win in the R&B Artist of the Year category, Foster the People took Top Rock Song for "Pumped Up Kicks," Coldplay were named Top Rock Artist, U2 Top Touring Act, Lady Gaga Top Dance Artist and an Icon Award for Stevie Wonder. Brown rode his glowing BMX bike out for a high-energy lip-synched run through "Turn Up the Music," while Usher got all gothic and mysterious with a flashy, Las Vegas-worthy, high-concept staging of "Scream."</P><P>Bieber stalked the DayGlo stage for a clown- and geisha-assisted future-funk performance of <a href="/news/articles/1685460/justin-bieber-boyfriend-billboard-music-awards.jhtml">"Boyfriend,"</a> followed by his prot&#233;g&#233; Carly Rae Jepsen singing "Call Me Maybe" and Carrie Underwood standing her ground amid a sea of blowing fans during "Blown Away."</P><P>In addition, the performance-heavy show had Linkin Park cranking up the flames for "Burn It Down," Nelly Furtado sporting "Big Hoops," Alicia Keys jamming with Icon winner Wonder, Perry doing a high-wire act in the virtual clouds during "Wide Awake" and Cee Lo Green and Goodie Mob joined by a one-legged Cirque du Soleil break dancer on "Fight to Win" and a stage full of dancing kids for a cover of the Beasties' "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)" in another nod to MCA.</P><P><i>What was your favorite part of the </i>Billboard<i> Music Awards?
